We’re happy to finally announce the release of Then Sings My Soul – Book 3!
It’s taken awhile. When my publisher, Matt Baucher of Thomas Nelson, first suggested a final installment of my series of books, Then Sings My Soul, I put him off. I’ve had to mull over the project for some years. But with good counsel from Matt and from others, the project came together better than I had hoped. I now feel the first two volumes of Then Sings would be incomplete without this final Book 3.
If you love the great hymns, if you love stories from church history, if you love the praise we’re to render the Lord, this is a book for you. I’ve attempted to expand the material to include a readable overview of the history of worship (from the first biblical hymns to today’s modern praise-and-worship hymns), biographical sketches of my favorite hymnists, some unusual hymn stories, and a couple of interesting twists along the way. For example, do you realize that for a thousand years the western church abandoned the practice of congregational singing? I’ll tell you how that happened.
I’ll also show you how to benefit from your own personal hymnbook, and how to restore the great hymns into congregational worship. There’s also a tribute to a dear friend whom I call “Hymn Lover Ermitus,” and I close the book with an unusual evangelistic ending. May the Lord use this book to add worshippers to His kingdom, and to make us all deeper worshippers of His glory.
PS – The publishers are asking my readers to review this book on the websites of Amazon and Christian Book Distributors. If you’d be willing to do that, I’d be grateful.
